A bead of water slides down the bottle as you put the opening to your lips. Your belly is full from the great food you've just enjoyed with old friends and ones you've just made. You never need a reason to BBQ, but when the opportunity to do it for a cause as worthy as this presents itself, you couldn't pass it up.

Back

It all starts with great food.

On July 18th we’ll be hosting our annual BBQ. In the past it’s been combined with a golf tournament but this year we’re combining it with a great cause (more on that when you hit the right arrow).

From 3 p.m. until the last people leave (please leave by midnight, we’ve got kids for goodness sakes) drop-in and enjoy some hamburgers, veggie burgers, hotdogs, all the salads you would expect at a BBQ and tremendous desserts. Along the way you’ll get to spend some time with old friends and make some great new ones.

Preview - The BBQ

A mission worthy of support.

In a country ravaged by civil war and genocide beams of hope are starting to shine in. While the global community has ignored Rwanda it has been the resolve of individuals who have been empowering change in this African nation.

Three families from our community have made the commitment, on their own dime, to travel to Rwanda this August and aid a community in the construction of a school. They are not going to build it for them - the ownership of this school will lie solely with the Rwandans - their role will be to support and aid in construction. They are going because many hands make light work and at this time in that place, they need all the many hands they can get.

Their two-week journey to Rwanda begins this August. Along with assisting with the school build they’ll also be bringing toys and sports equipment along for the children in the community.

BBQ With a Mission money shotBBQ and a tax receipt? I’m in!

You’re not going to be preached at or hit up with a tin can at the BBQ. It’s still a BBQ! By showing up at the BBQ you’ll be lending credence to the families’ efforts. You’ll find they are everyday people who have everyday jobs. Are they a bit nervous about going? Probably. Do they have do it alone? Definitely not! Knowing there are people back home in Canada who have thrown their support behind them will go a long way.

However, the average cost per person for this trip is $5,000. When you meet the family of five going, the math will hit you in the face. If you’d like to support them on their mission there will be an opportunity to leave some money at the BBQ. Even one dollar is a big help! Gifts over $25 will receive a charitable tax receipt.

Kid Friendly? You Bet!

We're starting just after naptime so you and your children can enjoy some BBQ too. The bouncy castle will be out from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. along with other backyard toys.

After 5:30 p.m. we'll have two caregivers inside keeping watch over the youngens so you an continue to enjoy the fun, food and friends.

If you don't have kids or would rather leave them at home, don't worry - there will be plenty of good times for adults too.
